Research Toolkit: Referencing

Why do I need a Bibliography / Reference List?

When submitting a piece of work, you need to properly acknowledge the material that you have used . This allows others who read your work to verify facts, research the same information more easily and to avoid plagiarism. Acknowledgment may be in the form of  in text citations, footnotes and a reference list and/ or a bibliography. Check with your teacher to find out what acknowledgements you have to provide.

Avoiding Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the presentation of another person's work, ideas, or creations as your own, without acknowledging where those ideas came from. In other words - you take credit for someone else's work.

In-text referencing avoids plagiarism. If you are required to provide in-text references please click here for more information.
